About the Department
The department of Mathematics of Netaji Subhas University of Technology (formerly Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology) was established in the year 1983 under the School of Applied Sciences and later became an independent department in December 2013. The department offers a postgraduate course of M.Sc. in Mathematics and Ph.D program in various areas of research. The department also supports all the Engineering and Science departments by offering core and advance courses in Mathematics at the undergraduate B.Tech. and post -graduate level.
The department has always been on a progressive path due to its experienced and dedicated faculty members who have a strong commitment towards providing quality Mathematics education and research. At present, the department has a total 15 faculty members who are working in diverse research areas of Mathematics and are granted with several research projects from funding agencies.

- To promote academic growth by offering mathematical education in various fields of sciences and engineering.
- To facilitate the sharing of knowledge between industry, academia, and research organizations.
- Providing world class educational experience to encourage a combination of learning, research, and collaboration by maintaining a curriculum which includes latest developments in mathematical sciences.
- To become analytical thinkers and to collaborate, contribute and provide excellence in research which will tend to serve the society, region and nation overall.
Program Outcomes (POs):
- PO1: The program helps in developing problem solving skills, responsibilities in the field of research, is able to design, analyze, interpret data and find solutions for complex mathematics problems by applying the right tools.
- PO2: The program facilitates students in developing intellectual skills that are required in a diverse range of careers including finance, actuarial sciences, defence, academia, govt. and entrepreneurship.
- PO3: Applies ethical principles and is committed to professional ethics, avoiding unethical behaviour such as fabrication of data, committing plagiarism and unbiased truthful actions in all aspects of work.
- PO4: Communicates effectively, comprehends knowledge, functions effectively as an individual, as a member and leader of diverse teams, skills that are necessary for participating in learning activities throughout life.
Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs):
- PSO1: Acquire advanced knowledge in pure mathematics, including algebra for coding, differential equations for solving complex science and engineering challenges, and linear algebra for modeling natural phenomena.
- PSO2: Develop proficiency in advanced mathematical disciplines such as topology, functional analysis, real analysis, complex analysis, and measure theory.
- PSO3: Gain training in data science, utilizing R programming for data analysis, and recognize the significance of probability and statistics in constructing informed decisions, understanding data patterns, and evaluating risks across various fields, from scientific research to finance and social sciences.
- PSO4: Evaluate the role of operations research in optimizing techniques such as budget allocation, dietary planning, dynamic programming, and game theory.
- PSO5: Comprehend fundamental mathematical axioms and demonstrate the ability to develop concepts based on these principles.
- PSO6: Utilize software tools for solving mathematical problems and interpreting mathematical data effectively.
- PSO7: Enhance problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and creativity through assignments and project work.
- PSO8: Prepare and inspire students for advanced research in mathematics and related disciplines.
