Department of Chemistry

General Information

The Department of Chemistry, formerly under the School of Applied Sciences, was created as a separate department in December 2013. The department aims to provide high-quality education in chemistry at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. In addition to teaching, research work is also being carried out in collaboration with institutions like University of Delhi, NPL.

Courses offered at UG level

The department supports all the Engineering divisions by offering common courses in Chemistry (theory and practical) in the first and second semester. The department also offers advanced chemistry course to Biological Science & Engineering division.

Courses offered at PG level

M.Sc. Chemistry programme is a specialized PG level course offered by Department of Chemistry. Master of Science is a 2-year post-graduate programme with an intake of sixty seats in each academic session. This PG course will offer knowledge and advanced practical training with emphasis on fundamental concepts of chemistry.

Doctoral Programme (Ph.D.)

The Department of Chemistry offers a full time Ph.D. programme in various experimental, theoretical and computational fields. This programme typically involves advanced course work and significant original research related to organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry.

Vision of the Department

The Department of Chemistry aims to strive for excellence in academics and research and produce experts in all the fields of Chemical Sciences who can take the nation forward in innovation and address global scientific and technological needs.

Mission of the Department

  1. To inspire and promote young minds to discover their talent and support them to use it for innovation.

  2. To inculcate research aptitude, analytical thinking, problem solving skills, and communication skills in the students to empower them to make scientific research beneficial for the society.

  3. To strike collaborations with highly reputed national and international institutions to pursue interdisciplinary research taking a holistic approach for a scientific study.
